On September 14th 2010, Sotheby's is to hold its first ever dedicated auction of antique chimneypieces and fire grates.
In 2011, Chesney's is planning an ambitious expansion programme. The company is looking to open new showrooms in the USA and plans are in progress for a state of the art distribution centre in the UK to cater to a rapidly growing European and domestic trade sales operation.
To help finance this expansion, the company will be offering for sale a wide selection of important antique chimneypieces from the unique collection it has amassed over its 25 year history. On the 14th of September, Sotheby's auctioneers will be hosting this exclusive sale at its New Bond Street galleries in London. The main galleries of the auction house will be used to display some 200 mantels and grates in the first sale of its kind that Sotheby's has ever held. A substantial proportion of Chesney's antique stockholding will not be included in the sale and the company will be continuing to trade in antique chimneypieces and grates as this remains a valued part of our business.
